This cake was made for a sweet little guy's 1st birthday bash! This was my first time making a square cake and I have to say I absolutely loved it! The bottom tier of this cake was made with my favorite chocolate cake recipe, homemade raspberry filling, butter cream frosting & marshmallow fondant. The top tier was made from my best yellow cake recipe, chocolate mocha creme filling, butter cream frosting & marshmallow fondant.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Thursday, April 21, 2011 by admin

This year for my mom's birthday, she asked that I make her a special cake to celebrate! Of all the things I know my mom loves, purses is definitely at the top of her list. Seeing as though her favorite color is green, I decided to make her a cute green purse cake.

This cake is made with my favorite chocolate cake recipe, homemade raspberry filling and buttercream frosting. I decorated it with my marshmallow fondant, with the detail work being hand piped. This cake is by no means my most perfect cake, unfortunately, but I loved it and it tastes amazing!

Happy Adoption Day!

Thursday, April 21, 2011 by admin

This cake was made with lots of love for my sweet little cousin Susie. She was adopted into my husband's family and this day was the celebration of her adoption being finalized.

This cake was strawberry (to match the color of the pink cake), buttercream frosting and marshmallow fondant on the bottom layer. The heart design on the top layer was made from white chocolate and resembles the heart necklace that my husband's aunt has given to all her adopted children as a special family memento.

Mod Little Monkies

Thursday, April 21, 2011 by admin

The first cake was made for the first birthday of a very sweet little boy. They had chosen the "mod monkey" theme and asked me to make a cake that would resemble the party's theme. This cake was chocolate with fresh raspberry filling. I used buttercream frosting for the cakes and fondant for the circles & monkey face. The family was super happy with the cake and I was thrilled to have help make the little guy's first birthday a day to remember!
The Second Birthday cake was for a my daughter Ashley's best friend Molly. Coincidentally, she also wanted a "mod monkey" themed birthday party! Her cake was extra special, it was my first time making a lemon cake! Luckily it turned out great and was extremely tasty. It has a delicious lemony frosting to go with it, decorations also made with the marshmallow frosting.
This cake was made for a 1st birthday party for a sweet little guy. He loves animals, in particular monkeys so his mom requested the "mod monkey" themed birthday cake. This cake sure has been popular among my friends & family this year!

Happy Halloween, Happy Birthday!

A dear friend of mind has a Halloween birthday!

I made this cake as a birthday gift for a dear friend of mine, Pat. I know other people who have birthdays near or on holidays and I know how it can often feel as though the importance of your birthday falls behind the holiday. I wanted her to see how important she was and do something special for her just for her birthday. She told me she would LOVE a Halloween birthday cake! (more…)

Creepy Crawly Carnival

Monday, November 1, 2010 by admin

These cupcakes were created for the CV Starr Center's Creepy Crawly Carnival.

After researching for inspiration, these are the designs I came up with. I chose 5 designs and made 10 cupcakes of each creating a total of 50 cupcakes. Once I got to the event, I realized that I should have created much more. Unfortunately I am only one person so I am not even sure that would have been possible. (more…)

Rock ‘n Roll

This cake was made for my niece Saphia's 5th birthday celebration. This cake is reflective of her personal style

This cake was a delicious moist chocolate cake from scratch. Underlying frosting was a handmade royal icing, which was also used to pipe the guitar strings, boarder & name.

Top decorations are made out of my own marshmallow fondant. Skull was hand sculpted and I also applied some adorable gold star sprinkles for additional glam.

Are You Read for Some Football?

Sunday, October 24, 2010 by admin

This cake was made for my cousin Jen. Her birthday was a bittersweet occasion due to some recent family losses. I wanted to give her my love and support by creating a cake I knew she would love and being a football fan & hard working football mom, I knew this was it!

This cake was delicious strawberry with a lovely cream cheese frosting I made from scratch. Fondant was made from my usual marshmallow fondant recipe. I added some texture to the football itself to give it a more real look and feel. Borders and football details were hand piped in the cream cheese & a chocolate frosting.

This cake was made in loving memory of my dear aunt Janice Tuomala. I feel blessed to be able to walk in her footsteps with my cake creating skills.

Finding Nemo

Sunday, September 19, 2010 by admin

This year for my son Evan's 3rd birthday we decided on a "Finding Nemo" theme. We had a joint birthday party for him and his cousin Susie who was also turning 3.

This cake was quite an accomplishment! This time around I did EVERYTHING from scratch! I baked my first yellow cake from scratch. I would like to add that I found bake much better for decorating. The cakes came out nice and even without any extra effort on my part! I also created my own decorating frosting. I made a lovely white vanilla frosting. I found this frosting a bit harder to work with as it is not as silky as it's store bought counterpart. On the plus side the frosting was extremely fluffy and delicious! The cakes themselves were much less sweet than store bought cake but created a nice harmonious balance with the super sweet frosting once decorated.

All decorative accents were created with my own handmade marshmallow fondant. I even created the "Nemo" fish on top (and on the cupcakes) by hand and piped the eyes and stripes. I created two small fish for two of the cupcakes for the guests of honor. I also added brown sugar to create a sandy feel to the bottom of the cake and as a spot for nemo to sit. All in all I have to say that this is quite possibly my best cake thus far.

iCarly Birthday Party

Friday, September 17, 2010 by admin

Ashley Rose had an iCarly birthday party this year!!

I knew I was going to have quite a crowd on my hands so I decided on 2 dozed cupcakes in addition the the cake.

I covered the cake with my handmade marshmallow fondant. I also used the fondant to create the logo background & decorative flowers. Everything else was hand piped in buttercream frosting. All cupcakes were hand piped. Each color had a different tip to add texture to the simple floral design.
